NMW! NEWS

On OCTOBER 6, 2008 Dr. Gillman will embark on a tour with the film, KATRINA'S CHILDREN, a compelling, haunting and critical documentary featuring the children of NEW ORLEANS, produced by Babs Johnson (Executive Producer Richard Colton) and directed by Laura Belsey.  The tour will include a presentation of the film followed by a discussion on the educational implications and lessons learned in a post-Katrina New Orleans. Whenever possible Dr. Gillman will be joined by other experts, advocates from New Orleans and the VERY BEST "home grown" NOLA brass bands/musicians.

The schedule will be posted here at no-matter-what.org (on our KATRINA'S CHILDREN NMW! page),dates will be added once confirmed so CHECK BACK OFTEN!

Here's what some folks are saying about KATRINA'S CHILDREN:

It was interesting to get the perspective of the children of Katrina. Easy to tell that while some seemed to have dealt with it and moved on, others had lingering after-effects, which seems natural given the trauma and hardship they experienced. A good learning experience for all of us.

So much attention has been placed on adult issues post-Katrina, but sadly very little focus has been on Katrina's children. There are many lessons that parents and communities could learn from this documentary about the impact of a disaster upon younger survivors.

This documentary needs to be shown nationally. Hopefully it will get the attention it deserves.

A special THANK YOU to all those who helped with our TRUTH4THEYOUTH
NO MATTER WHAT! BENEFIT July 8, 2008.

NoMatterWhat4web.JPGAs some of you know, the EVENT was originally scheduled to take place at Tipitinas (a club with historic relevance to the mission of TRUTH4THEYOUTH).  All was confirmed by June 8, 2008.  Unfortunately, Dr. Gillman was notified on Friday June 13th that Bill Taylor, the Director of Tipitinas Foundation had made an error and the club (which had been guaranteed to NMW!) had been 'accidentally' booked for the filming of Mardi Gras, a movie starring Carmen Electra. And so on July 8, 2008 rather than a BENEFIT for NMW! and the Boys and Girls Club of S.E. LA (originally scheduled to take place at Tipitina's) - a wet t-shirt contest was filmed there instead.

Due to the emergency change in venue, the scurry to locate a new location, and lack of adequate time for publicity- the turnout was consequently low.   In the end, the BENEFIT for NMW! and the youth at the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB of S.E. LOUISIANA cost NMW! a substantial amount.

Unfortunately and shamefully, Tipitina's has yet to offer ANY compensation for this terrible and unfortunate 'mistake' (one they obviously benefited from).

In the meantime, the program the BENEFIT was originally meant to fund, TRUTH4THEYOUTH NO MATTER WHAT! PRODUCTIONS is proceeding as planned.  But like so much else in New Orleans, it is now forced to operate with an extremely limited (almost non-existent) budget.

If you were unable to attend our BENEFIT but would like to help offset our cost and assist us with providing this extremely important program for the YOUTH at the NFL/YET BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB, please visit our donation page and make a tax deductible donation today!

Thank you from all children and teachers everywhere...
